LONDON--The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority said Monday it has granted permission to Northern Powergrid (Northeast) Ltd., and Northern Powergrid (Yorkshire) PLC; and British Gas Trading Ltd., to appeal against Ofgem's RIIO-ED1 price control decision for electricity distribution companies.

The CMA announced it had received the appeals earlier this month and said it will now appoint a group of panel members to determine them.

The appeals relate to price controls made for the eight-year period from April 1 2015 to March 31, 2023. The details of the price controls were announced in November 2014.

The appeals are separate from the CMA's ongoing investigation into the retail energy market.
